 | LE CLOS JORDANNE Niagra Canada- 2006 Village Reserve There has been much hype, thus far totally deserved, surrounding this joint venture between Burgundian (Boisset) and Canadian (Vincor, now part of Constellation) wine companies. They have taken a totally Burgundian approach to their bench site on the Niagara Escarpment, splitting the vineyards up according to soil, planting Chardonnay and Pinot Noir almost exclusively, and using Burgundian-trained (but born in Canada) winemakers and thus the Burgundian winemaking philosophy. And boy does it show
in every wine! A blend of four estate vineyards, it has light, elegant forest and cherry notes on the nose, and displays ripe, almost sweet, cherry fruit in the mouth, but with firm tannins and a touch of unobtrusive French oak. It's a well-balanced Pinot Noir, making it a safe choice for matching with white and red meat

 | HAWKSBURN 2007 PINOT NOIR - Central Otago NZ It really is amazing what Bibendumites get up to at the weekend. Hawksburn Terrace Pinot Noir is made by our very own Matt Douglas from the vineyards around his house in Bannockburn, Central Otago. A boutique Bibendum producer, Matt has just 1.2ha of Pinot Noir (to put that in perspective, the Romanee-Conti vineyard covers 1.8ha!) and the wine is completely hand crafted in every sense. Hand picked, plunged and racked, it sees only a small amount of new oak with Matt allowing the fruit to take centre stage

 | ATA RANGI MARTINBOROUGH NZ- 2008 Crimson Pinot Noir This younger vines pinot noir simply named Crimson is inspired by a love of rata and pohutukawa, New Zealands stunning native red-flowering Christmas trees. The 2008 has a nose of violets, ripe black cherry and spice. Underpinning the vibrant fruit is a supple, fine tannin structure, making this a luscious food wine. It is designed for drinking now, but will also be lovely for at least two to three years from the vintage.
Sales of this wine support the work of Project Crimson, the charitable conservation trust first established in 1990 to protect and plant rata and pohutukawa, then seriously endangered by possums and changing land use. The idea for Crimson to help promote and support their work grew from our on-going relationship with the trust on bush-block rata plantings. Website: www.projectcrimson.org.nz
